
Within all divisions of Sanquin research relating to blood transfusion medicine in its broadest sense is performed by a dedicated research staff.
A major part of the research takes place in departments of Sanquin Research (located on the premises of the former CLB in Amsterdam, and in Leiden, Nijmegen and Groningen) .

The division of plasma products and Sanquin Blood Bank have their own departmenta of product- and process development
Much of the research in the fields of immunology, immunohaematology, and infectious diseases is being performed within the setting of the collaborative Landsteiner Laboratory of Sanquin and the Academic Medical Centre of the University of Amsterdam
.Research on clinical transfusion medicine is performed within the setting of the joint Sanquin - Leiden University Medical Centre Jon J van Rood Centre for Clinical Transfusion Research.

Besides research funded from within the Sanquin organisation, Sanquin is also able to obtain funding from the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the European Commission, and several charities. Sanquin collaborates extensively with research groups within the Netherlands and abroad.

Sanquin’s dedicated research staff consists of about 100 researchers (including seven scientists holding professorships, and 45 PhD students), and about 120 technicians. Every year over 200 papers are published – mainly in peer reviewed journals. Each year about 10 PhD theses are defended.
Training
Sanquin offers a large number of opportunities for practical training for students from polytechnics and universities. Furthermore, we participate in undergraduate, graduate and post doctoral training programmes in collaboration with several Dutch universities and other research institutes. Sanquin Research hosts national and international students, trainees, post docs and visiting scientists.
Research code
Sanquin has drawn up a research code, comparable to the research codes of most universities. The Research Code is at the moment only available in Dutch, an English translation will be available shortly.
Sanquin is affiliated to the National Organisation for Scientific Integrity.
